Focus on Imaging

I see from the website that the Focus on Imaging show is on at the NEC next week. Is anyone going ? I can go any day and it would be great to meet some of the people who I only know from on here. Reply to this if you are going.

Urbex

I have just read the workshop on Urban Exploring on the website. Does anyone else get involved in this ? What have been your experiences ? I'd love to have a go, but to be honest it sounds a bit daunting- or dare i say Frightening.

I'd be interested in other people's first steps - before I dare take the plunge.

Wide Angle lens ?

I own a Nikon D90. It is a great camera, but I really could do with a decent wide angle lens for taking landscape shots. Does anyone have any recommendations for such a lens ? I am looking for quality with value for money, rather than just the cheapest.

What Software

Folks, I'll kick off by declaring myself a complete convert to Adobe Lightroom. Before that I was happy enough with Capture NX 2, but felt it lacked support. LR, on the other hand, has a massive online community backing it and obviously the full weight of the mighty Adobe. Photoshop is still a requirement for those who deal with the highly technical last stages of reproduction in print and for those who indulge in that creepy pastime of.... changing things. But if you just want to squeeze every last drop of quality from your RAW images and benefit from superbly conceived import, organisation and export options, then LR is a clear winner for me. Did you know, for example, that it needn't take fifteen steps to remove red-eye from your flash photos? Hmmm...

New camera - any opinions ?

I am thinking about buying a Nikon D90. Does anyone have one of these, or know anything about them, before I splash out my hard earned cash ?

Rule of Thirds

I have read about the "Rule of Thirds". It seems to be important. I have tried to find examples when I have been looking at other photographers' work. When I do, i have to say there is something about those shots that makes me feel they look good.

My problem is that when I see a good shot, it doesn't naturally seem to fit this rule. When I look at the shots on my computer I can see that it has something missing. What can I do? Should I forget the rule of thirds ? Is there a way to make sure it applies somehow ? It seems so natural when the photo mags talk about it, yet for some reason i just can't get it right?

Anybody out there who can help.
